The Playerspool started in 2006 in The Netherlands purely for student athletes who would like to study and play soccer for a US college. Players who were not good enough to play professional soccer still had the opportunity to pursue a “professional ” foreign soccer career. Not really professional of course but acquiring a full or partial soccer scholarship will definitely give you the same feeling.
Thanks to our showcases it was made possible to accomplish this fantastic American dream. Each year The Playerspool organizes a preliminary showcase and a final showcase. To attend a showcase you need to create an online player profile. During the showcases the skills and qualities of players are judged through our scouts and coaches. The best 30 players out of these preliminary showcases will be invited to attend the final showcase.
In 2008 we organized our first showcase outside The Netherlands namely in Leeds, England. In 2009 we expect to organize student showcases in The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Norway, USA and China. Besides student showcases we have also started to organize talent showcases for players pursuing a professional soccer career. These showcases can be found in our showcase agenda. Next to our own showcases we will also publish showcases from other organizations (among others professional clubs).
All players have the opportunity to create an extensive online soccer profile. Players under the age of 13 need approval from their parents. We advise players to fill out the profiles as complete as possible and also to add a personal video footage to show your soccer qualities to the world. Coaches need lots of information to have a good insight in your skills before they will approach you for their team.
For us it’s important to have such a strict recruiting procedure. Coaches travel all around the globe to recruit players for their team. Therefore we like to help them a bit by organizing preliminary showcases. In this way only the best players participate in the final showcase. That’s the reason college coaches like visiting our final showcases. As a result of our strict selection procedure the level of players is increasing every year. And more and more coaches are visiting our showcases because of this high quality. From our last final showcase (December 2008) already 50% of all participants are granted a partial or full scholarship and will be playing in the US next season.
Next to player profiles also coaches have the opportunity to create an own online profile. This can be seen as a coach CV (curriculum vitae). Clubs and other organizations who are looking for a new coach can look around here and possibly approach coaches directly. The Playerspool will soon start publishing soccer coach vacancies here to which coaches can respond. Furthermore coaches can look at players profiles and even approach players for their team. Also contacting and communicating with other coaches is possible.
